This 2 week Discovery holiday is the ultimate tour of Bhutan, travelling right across the country from west to east, reaching the parts of this magical kingdom other tours can't reach. After flying from Delhi to Paro and visiting the incredible 'Tigers Nest' monastery, we begin the Ultimate Bhutan Tour by attending one of the highlights of the Bhutanese calendar - the Thimpu Festival - where colourful masked dancers whirl like dervishes while throngs of people dressed in their finest socialise and trade their wares. After the festival we journey in a leisurely fashion eastwards across high passes and through beautiful valleys, stopping frequently as we come to the next awe inspiring view or magnificent fortress monastery (known as dzongs). As well as visiting all the major sights of an ordinary tour to Bhutan such as the Tigers Nest monastery, Thimpu, Punakha Dzong and the Phobjikha valley, we travel deeper into the country, first to Tongsa, then the valleys of Bumthang and beyond to Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan's most easterly distict. This unique tour ends with a border crossing into Assam and from here we fly back to Delhi. If you want to discover the real Bhutan, this is the holiday for you.
This is one of five departures of our Ultimate Bhutan Tour. On four of these, the group will attend a Bhutan Tsechu (festival), with a different and unique festival for each departure. Each departure of the Ultimate Bhutan Tour therefore has a slightly different itinerary and its own holiday dossier.
Is this holiday for you?
This holiday is one of our range of Discovery Tours. As such, there are no elements of difficult or sustained trekking although in order to visit some of the sights on this holiday, you will need to be in good shape physically. The holiday is conducted at a reasonably leisurely pace with plenty of time to visit the key places of interest along the way. Naturally on a tour of this nature there are some long spells of road travel and you should be prepared for this.
